The ferry ride was very pleasant. It was cold but so bad to keep us from the deck. There were seals swimming in the water and lots of Seagulls flying everywhere. The ferry went between several large islands and we could see massive mansions built on the waterfront. What a view they have! This was our first time on a ferry. It's about sixty bucks...

Nice location

from Parcha on 2004-08-23
We stayed as this Marriott for a few nights during an August 2004 visit to Victoria. It's within a couple of blocks of the harbor, and the location is hard to beat. You can easily walk to the Parliament Building and the main commerce streets in Victoria. The hotel is just about three months old, so everything smells and looks brand new. The only drawback is that the rooms are smaller than average and the views are fine, but not phenomenal. Overall, a great choice. Service is excellent.

Fantastic

from dafajua on 2004-08-19
Probably the best place to stay in Victoria. The hotel is plush and nicely decorated; very classy, and centrally located. The rooms are very well appointed, the beds are wonderful and the bathroom spacious. The staff is very professional and eager to assist you. This is the place to stay in Victoria; you will not regret it.

Thumbs Up!!

Although it had only been open about 2 months when we stayed there, you wouldn't have know it unless they'd told you. The service and attentiveness was magnificent -- as if they'd been in operation forever. If they were still working any bugs out, we certainly couldn't tell it. We've stayed at about 4 or 5 different Marriotts in recent years and have come to realize that the Marriott chain always seems to put a real emphasis on customer service and hospitality -- definitely more so than any other comparable hotel group (i.e. Sheraton, Hilton, etc.) . Everyone always had a smile on their face and a pleasant hello. The rooms were nicely appointed, the beds very comfortable, and the location just a block and a half from the Empress and the inner harbor. The only meal we ate in the hotel was breakfast, which was very good (and extremely plentiful -- one serving of oatmeal was easily enough for 2). All in all a wonderful stay. The only thing they didn't have was a shuttle van to take us to the ferry (only a 5-10 minute walk, but with all our suitcases, just a bit too far, so we had to take a cab). Other than that, no complaints whatsoever. We'd stay there again without hesitation!!

Nice, quiet place

Stayed here for the grand opening rate. Good deal and I loved the room. Nicely decorated, very comfortable and a hallway from the door to the bathroom which kept out any noise at all in the halls. Doors did not slam and for four days I didn't hear a sound while in the room. Yes, make sure you request the one side where the construction isn't going on. Great location and nice, nice people. Workout room is great, which is always a priority for we jocks! You won't be disappointed.

Great new Marriott in Victoria

from nextvacation on 2004-07-22
Stayed at this new Marriott for 4 nights during week of July 12. Used Marriott Rewards points for our stay -- 2 parent/1 child family. Very convenient in Victoria. Easy to get in and out of traffic-wise, and within easy walking distance of all downtown attractions, as it is 1 block from Inner Harbour. Well-appointed rooms. Quite comfortable beds, beautiful view from upper floors -- we were on 9th floor. Extremely helpful and courteous staff. They could direct us to just about any attraction and had great recommendations on restaurants and whale-watching companies in particular, as well as day trips up Vancouver Island's coast. We only tried the in-house restaurant for breakfast, and it was quite good. Also have a computer set up with free internet access, for those who wish to check their email. They also have a nice indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and exercise room. A free guest laundry as well - with detergent/fabric softener for sale in gift shop. There is construction going on next door and in front of the hotel, but we did not notice any excess noise from our room. Would highly recommend this Marriott.

Great Stay

from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-07-11
The hotel was beautiful. The staff was as polite and attentive as an Marriott I have ever stayed at. We did not like our room originally, and they immediately moved us to another room, with an upgrade.

We enjoyed the stay so much, we extended our stay because we were having such a good time. I would definitely stay again.

In the words of my son This place rocks!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-07-01
Just returned from a 2 week stay on Vancouver Island which included two 2-night stays at the beginning and the end of our trip. The opening special of $119/night is a tremendous bargain. The hotel is very upscale and the staff all went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Everyone we encountered had the right balance of professionalism and friendliness. We even received a little "welcome back" gift upon arrival the second time.

I have to mention the beds. They are heaven! Incredibly comfortable - as are the robes. I liked the fact that I could open a window - although the traffic was often noisy. Temperature control in the rooms is efficient and quiet. This seems to be a perfect destination for business or family travel. My 8-year old son felt he was being treated like royalty.

Tried the new Marriott

from AnotherOntarioguy on 2004-06-22
New hotel, only open 1 month. Took advantage of their grand opening rate of C$ 119.

Guest rooms are fairly spacious and well appointed. Fitness center is not overly large but has 5 treadmills, 4 ellipticals, 4 bikes, a universal and some dumbbells.

Staff is new and for the most part just learning their jobs but everyone was friendly and helpful. Lots of package tour customers. It seemed like my colleagues and myself were the only guests here on business.

One caution, they are building a new condo tower adjacent to the hotel and the digging starts at 7:00AM so be sure to request a room on the other side if you like to sleep in.

Would return in a heartbeat to Marriott

from GenaF on 2004-06-20
We happened onto this hotel while searching online for where to stay on our visit to Victoria. We lucked out with a grand opening special rate. Stayed 3 nights. The accomodations were very clean, quiet, luxurious feeling, with attention to detail. The staff was professional, friendly and helpful. While not a water view the property was easy to get to and within short walking distance of all of the major in town attractions. The convention center was approx 2 blocks away, Parliment Buildings and Empress within view. We would stay here again, gladly and recommend it highly

Will stay again!

This is a brand-new property, located close to the inner harbour and Victoria downtown attractions. It is one block behind the famous Fairmont Empress Hotel. There are many dining choices available within few blocks of the hotel property.

Since this is not a water-front property and adjacent tall hotel building blocks views, my suspicion is that most rooms do not have views of the harbour.

The rooms are quite posh, with excellent bath amenities, safe, iron, bath robes and a in-room bar. The hotel has a lap pool, zacuzzi and a steam sauna. The staff is very courteous and makes every attempt to satisfy your needs. Valet parking is available at $12 per day.
