From Underground to the Mountain Top
Jul 19, 2007

Having explored Old Montreal the night before, I headed towards the train station. Walking along Rue Saint-Jacques, I traced the line of the old city wall until I reached Square Victoria. That's when I saw train tracks sloping up a bridge from the river. They ran into Place Bonaventure. I entered the building off Rue University and wandered up s...

Couln't ask for more

from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-01-15
We went to Montreal on a girls only vacation type thing, and had a blast at this hotel. Not only are the rooms huge (for a city hotel) the view of the park, cathedral and city are to die for. The hotel staff is very helpful, and went out of their way for us. It's in a very central location, only a few minute walk from shoppping, restaurants, and St.

Catherine St. But, it's nice to be a few blocks away from the craziness of the party district. The subway is accessible through the lobby, and the hotel even has a free shuttle to the casino (saves you about $20) The rooms are gorgeous..very large and plenty of space for shopping bags. I will definitly be staying here on every trip I make to Montreal!

Chateau Champlain was wonderful!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-01-07
Our stay at the Chateau Champlain in Montreal was absolutely fantastic.

We stayed in Rooms 703 and 704 and had a breathtaking view of snow falling on the park. The view looked like a scene out of Dickens' Village. The hotel elevator to the subway made travel around the city so convenient. We also took advantage of the car rental agency available in the lobby. Food in the hotel's restaurant was delicious and the service charming. We would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Built as a luxury hotel, but now a Marriott

from Canotek on 2004-01-04
This Marriott was built as a luxury hotel in the 1960's by Canadian Pacific Hotels, and many impressive architectural features remain. We have stayed here twice. The staff is polite. The rooms are large and offer unobstructed views. The bar/lounge is pleasant, especially when there is a pianist, but the food is only fair. The adjoining dining room is large, and mainly empty in the evening except for the stray hotel guest, and the food is poor. Montréal has excellent restaurants, so do not eat in this hotel. Its central location makes it a convenient place to stay, if you get a good rate.

A good hotel

from Cliff1955 on 2003-11-12
Our stay @ the Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain 10/31/03 - 11/09/03 was a good time. The hotel treated us well, it is in a prime location the room was neat and tidy, staff were friendly and helpful. it was quite for being downtown the view was great. I'm fussy about my coffee so we bought our own coffee there as the hotel room coffee was not very good I do not know why, most places it seams ok to me, we also bought sugar because they only give you 2 pks. We had room service a few times it was good food delivered on time and how we asked for it. I will be returning to the Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain next year when we return to Montreal.

I went to Montreal for my 18th birthday, my family took me there. At first I didn't want to go, but as soon as I got there the hotel was beautiful!!! Our room was very clean. I am not use to stayin in an upper class hotel. I was very impressed!! You made my birthday unforgettable!!! Thank you Marriott Chateau Champlain!!! -Lindsye

Great hotel

from cshaw313 on 2003-07-30
My daughter and I just got back from a 6 day vacation to Montreal and Quebec City. We stayed at 3 different luxury hotels during the trip and overall the Marriott Chateau Champlain was the best. The entire hotel was beautiful, especially the lobby, and we had a very tastefully decorated room with a nice view of the city. The staff was friendly - we particularly liked the concierge who had answers for all of our many questions. The hotel is one of many that are connected directly to the metro system (which is very safe and clean) and underground shopping areas so it is possible to get anywhere in the city very easily. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Montreal.

Really nice

from Bill190 on 2003-07-14
This was an extremely elegant and nice hotel, I loved our view high up above the city. It was convenient on a cold day how there was an underground metro stop right below us, and the pool was ok too.

Breakfast buffet was pretty good, and the location is ok, several stops down from Chinatown and Old Montreal. Quebec's room taxes are crazy steep too, but if you're a tourist you're able to send back for a refund later, which is kind of a weird and wasteful setup they have.

I'll stay here again next time I go to Montreal.

Typical marriott, which is fine

from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-02-25
I had a fine stay at the Marriott Chateau Champlain Feb 21-23, 2003. It's a tall circular tower with Moorish-style windows in Montreal's financial district, close to the train station, hockey arena and Old Montreal. It's typical Marriott as far as the facilities go. The lobby is large, busy and attractive. The rooms are good-sized but not too interesting, with that upscale taupe look and the typical art on the wall. Bathrooms are fine, with the usual Marriott Neutrogena bath products. (You could wake up in a Marriott in Memphis, Mombassa or Marseilles and not know the difference.) The hotel has a nice pool and fitness center, the room service is good and the staff is friendly. The hotel is connected to Underground Montreal, with direct access to the Bonaventure metro station and short, indoor walk to Gare Centrale, Place Bonaventure and Bell Centre. The other great attractions of Montreal - a fantastic city - are a short Metro ride away.

Decent

from A TripAdvisor User on 2002-05-31
We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. It can be a little pricey, and value wise....im not sure its what its cracked up to be. Be careful with the room you book, some can be quite small. There is a constant 'whirling" noise through-out the night, the underground subway perhaps? Hotel lobby is gorgeous, the inclusive breakfast deal is awesome, breakfast buffet excellent!pool area is o.k. All in all, a nice place to stay but a little steep for what you get.
